A View From Inside the Growing Facility

This short little update is just to show you some of the things that we currently have going here at our facility. The following pictures are just a small look into our humble beginnings working towards the bigger goal of producing healthy, nutrient dense foods for the local communities in which we are located!

We are currently growing three variety of heirloom organic tomatoes: "Mortgage Lifter" (a large delicious beefsteak variety that heralds from the Appalachian Mountain region of Kentucky and West Virginia), "BellStar" (a variety of Roma or paste tomato) and "Sweet Cherry" (a much improved taste in this variety over most store bought cherry and grape tomatoes which tend to be bitter)

Also on our roster are our three variety of organic peppers, one being an heirloom: "Purple Bell" is our heirloom variety (a purple exterior skin with the inside like a standard green bell pepper, only with a sweeter taste), "Sweet Red Bell" (the standard in red bell peppers for cooking and snacking, all organic) and finally Organic Jalapeno.

Next is our heirloom organic pole bean variety "Kentucky Wonder" (a great tasting summer pole bean variety heralding from the blue-grass areas of Kentucky!)

That is a small representation of what we are doing. We also have some awesome herbal flowers and plants as well! Hope you all have had a wonderful Wednesday and a great rest of your mid August week!

NEW SUPPLIES JUST ARRIVED!

We are so EXCITED to announce our new seed starter kit just arrived! It is a Park Seed brand kit that includes organic plugs for the tray as well as a heated mat for cooler rooms and to stabalize the temperature within the dome.
This will make our seed starting process much smoother and can further our vision one more step!

Thanks for sharing in the fun and the vision. Continue having a great (but safe) weekend!

What Is AgriDome Community Farms and What Does It Mean For Our World?

Welcome everyone to our page and project!

AgriDome Community Farms is a concept put together through years of careful observation of the problems that face the modern world and especially the use of land and agriculture.

Our short term goals are to continue getting a small operation going in a controlled greenhouse to offer 100% organic (heirloom when available) produce at a local scale at lower prices. We believe that it just is not fair to price people out of the nutrition that they need. Eventually this would take the form of a co-op that would involve AgriDome Community Farms in multiple communities sharing seeds, recipes and the such. Right now there is a makeshift greenhouse and a few vegetables and herbs. Also just added is organic wheatgrass and some organic sprout varieties. But we would LOVE to expand and through your help we can! We encourage you to follow us on Facebook as well at:

https://www.facebook.com/AgridomeCommunityFarm

for updates, health news and info on produce, herbs, vitamins and MUCH more to keep you healthy and happy! You will also notice that we have a donations tab located near the top left corner of our page! Or just Click Here! Donations of any size are always encouraged and you will be able to view what your donations have allowed us to do along the way as we post updates to this page!

Below you will see a full in depth look into what AgriDome Community Farms really looks to accomplish out of our small humble beginnings.

FUTURE VISION OF AGRIDOME COMMUNITY FARMS

While we continue to ship produce and other grown food products sometimes thousands of miles, many do not stop to realize the freshness of the produce has been reduced 30-50% over a 5-10 day shipping. Not only is our produce not always the freshest but it is also shipped via train, truck, boat or plane, all of which contribute to air, soil and water pollution.

As the world's population continues to grow our need for food production also grows. Farming as it is in most of the world today with the largely commercialized aspect has taken a toll on an industry that should be more personable. We've also depleted our soil of nutrients at an alarming rate through over tilling and other intensive agricultural practices such as herbicides, pesticides, GMOs etc. We should take pride in what we eat and know exactly what it is, how it was produced and where it came from. This is where AgriDome Community Farms step in.

There are numerous urban agricultural plots, gardens and greenhouses across the globe that have given a great start to a growing movement. With our idea we look to have a facility that will be a 100% contained environment that is free of contaminants and uses the purest water, air and soil possible for maximum nutrient density in the foods grown and produced. There will be differing rooms environmentally regulated to simulate the foods optimum growing habitat (temperature, moisture, light etc.). This ultimately would mean fruits such as acai, banana, mango and coconuts could be grown year round, anywhere on the planet. Or cooler climate crops could be grown in the dead of summer in the tropics. In addition less and less land will be needed for agricultural production and could be returned to it's natural state to be used as pasture, nature parks and protected lands.

The produce and food produced from AgriDome Community Farms would be shipped directly into the local community. Restaurants, grocers, food banks, churches, schools, the farmer's markets and citizens would have a direct link to the facility for any and most fresh food needs.

There will also be an organic store and restaurant attached to the facility where all food will be prepared from the produce and animal products grown and or raised in house. Facility Informational Tours also are a great potential to give the community a look at it's growers and volunteers and an educational tool for not only school age children and teens but adults as well.

Click here for an excellent study done on the benefits of urban agriculture for further reading!

And lastly the AgriDome Community Farm would be a source for civic benevolence/donating. A greater portion of profits earned would be donated directly back into the community or city. Just some examples that have been reviewed would be money for the park districts, streets and highway projects/upgrades, beautification projects, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, local charities, libraries, schools (boosters, music/art programs etc.), hospitals, farmer's markets and other civic celebrations like parades and fireworks and many MANY more!

We would so much appreciate any kind of donation that you can make. Even a few dollars goes a long way when sharing this great opportunity for our world with your friends and family. We truly hope to bring a unified force to the urban and local farming movement through co-oping. Together we can change our world, our health and our future!

Sincerely,
Rich Barrett
